Getting Started: Getting off to a good start with your YL class

What can you do in that very first class that allows you to (1) get to know your students a little; (2) get your students to know each other a little; (3) find out what their general abilities are in listening, speaking, reading and writing; (4) lay down some general classroom rules that the students themselves take part in deciding; and (5) make a sort of 'contract' with the students that can be referred to later if things start to go wrong?

Well, there are no promises here of miracle cures for the ailments beseiging the first time class, but these simple supplements might help steer your kids onto the right path early on.
